Songs & Stories of the Local, Lost and Found

Shiel Street Press invites you to an evening of music, readings, trivia and conversations at the Wild Geese (Celtic Club) in Brunswick on Sunday July 26th.

Featuring readings from Love Letters to North Melbourne Pool and Records of the Loss Property Department of Gardiner Reserve, poetry of loss from The Penguin Book of Elegy, and music from Taylor Project, the evening is a chance to celebrate, and to extend, the community of the Shiel Street Press, a small independent publisher committed to telling stories of home, street, neighbourhood and place.

Musicians and urban researchers Liz and Sarah, of long-running folk group Taylor Project, combine weirdly wonderful research with harmonies and humour. Their songs and stories this evening will be both a prelude and a fact-finding mission for Throw Away Cabaret: Songs About Haunted Hard Rubbish, their 2026 Melbourne Fringe Festival show. They will be delighted to share, and to hear more, stories about objects people throw out – or can't.
